Scoil Iosaef Naofa at Christmas

Class Concerts: All classes have been working very hard over the last few weeks in preparation for the annual Christmas Concerts. They performed for each other on Tuesday 19th and for their families on Wednesday 20th December. Many thanks to parents for helping out with the costumes!

Stamps for the Missions: As usual, at this time of year particularly with all the Christmas Cards and New Year cards arriving in the post, we ask people to hold on to the used stamps and send them into Mr. McSweeney’s 5th/6th Class. Please ensure that some of the envelope is left around the stamp. We collect used stamps on a weekly basis in the school and deliver them to the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, Limerick, who use them to raise funds for their missions.

Cathedral Evening Prayer Services for Advent: Three of our pupils from Mr Fleming’s Rang a Sé have been taking part in these prayer services during the Sundays of Advent. They are Daniel Devlin Buckley, Aaron Murphy & Fred Kelleher. A very special word of thanks to Sr. Emmanuel for preparing them.

School Choir: Pupils from 4th, 5th & 6th classes performed at a concert in the lead up to Christmas-Cobh Lions Club Christmas Concert at the Heritage Centre on Thursday 14th December. They were conducted by Mrs. Doonan & Ms. Fitzgerald  and were accompanied  Mr. O’Loingsigh & Mr. 0’Donovan.

St. Vincent de Paul Collection: Many thanks to those who brought in non-perishable foodstuffs over the last two weeks. These were presented to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Christmas Jumper Day: The no uniform day was a great success with €450 collected which was donated to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all those associated with the school a happy and holy Christmas. Beannachtaí na Nollag agus na hAthbhliana oraibh go léir!

A Message from the Principal—Tony Kenneally

The spirit of Christmas has been very much in evidence around Scoil Iosaef Naofa over the last few weeks. The elves arrived one night and decorated the junior and senior infant corner of the school.

Classes have been rehearsing for their plays and songs. 'It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas' has been heard throughout the school. The period leading up to Christmas is a time of preparation. Advent reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas which is a celebration of the birth of Jesus. We must embrace not only the fact that Jesus came into this world but we take heed of his message of peace, hope and love. And so it is that when we appealed to our school community to be generous towards Our Lady's Childrens Hospital in Crumlin the response was fantastic. We asked people to donate food items to Saint Vincent De Paul and the response has been great. We wish everyone in our school community a very happy Christmas and thank you for your amazing support for the school throughout 2017.

Let's hope Santa visits the school on Friday 22nd at about 12.15 p.m.   Look up !!

A Christmas Poem. (Caleb Coady)

During the night the wind is whistling,

Outside, the snow is glistening.

When you wake up, what do you see?

Well, I saw an unimaginable sight

Staring at me through the dark night!

I got a shock, or in other words, a fright!

It came through the door like magic

And all the radios crackled with static.

It had blue eyes and a red nose

And that’s when time froze.

I woke up and I saw a present

Decorated with red bows.

So, that’s the end of my poem.

Oh! And I almost forgot—

Merry Christmas!

Help the Poor and Lonely (Fred Kelleher)

Help the poor, they cause no fuss,

All they need is support from us.

A little gift, a chat for a while

Will raise their spirits and give them a smile.

When they’re on the street don't stop and stare

As sometimes life is hard to bare.

When you offer care and a helping hand

Everything then will seem to be grand.

On a rainy day when you’re at home

Just think of those people who are sat all alone.

Say a little prayer and  hope they’re fine

As all they need is a bit more time.

The Happiest Christmas Tree (Paddy Murphy)

I’m the happiest Christmas tree.

Someone came and they bought me.

Look how pretty they dress me.

Whenever someone passes by

I blink my lights and I wink my eye!

Oh! I’m the happiest Christmas tree!

Christmas Day, wait and see!

What I wish for the World this Christmas

(Kieran Hurley)

What I wish for the world this Christmas

Is that all the wars will cease.

What I wish for the world this Christmas

That we could all live in peace.

What I wish for the world this Christmas

Is that there is a roof over every head.

What I wish for the world this Christmas

Is that everyone is fully fed.

What I wish for the world this Christmas

Is that families sit down together.

What I wish for the world this Christmas

Is that we get snowy weather!

Christmas (Oisin Kelly)

Santa is near

And the presents are here.

The holly is shaking

And my mum is baking.

All my family are here

And I’m in cheer.

The kitchen is a mess,

Christmas is the best!
